We all probably copped a haircut from Mum at least once growing up.

But Rachael Finch. has been slammed for sharing her attempt at cutting her son’s hair on Instagram, with people accusing her of doing a “horrendous" job and not supporting small businesses by going to a hairdresser.

Earlier this week, the model and mother-of-two uploaded a video of her cutting three-year-old son Dom’s hair.

In the video, a laughing Dom sits in a chair in the family’s living room as Rachael cuts his hair with a pair of scissors and razor.

In the caption Rachael wrote that it was a “DIY chop” and that Dom had asked her followers to “let me know what you think of my haircut below”.

But in the comments Rachael was slammed over the cut, with some accusing her of doing a “hack job” and not supporting small businesses by going to a hairdresser.

“As a professional barber I ask please take him to the barbershop and support your local businesses,” one person wrote, while another added: “You can’t afford to take him to the barber? This is horrendous. Your poor child.”

“Are hairdressers closed in NSW??!”

“Sorry I enjoy following you, but you are no hairdresser you wouldn’t do that to your own hair.”

“Why would you do this it looks terrible. Barbers are not that expensive.”

But others were quick to defend Rachael pointing out it was no easy feat to cut children’s hair and it was “harmless” fun.

“OMG – he knows his left from right?! Genius child!” Bec Judd commented. “Ps. Great job on the hair cut mumma.”

“Amazing job honey. Bobby loves me cutting his hair too. What good memories to create,” influencer Sophie Cachia wrote.

“So cute he looks so happy. I’m a hairdresser and not sure why people are so rude. Good job Mumma,” one person wrote, while another added: “God, so many mean comments about something so natural and harmless.”

Others pointed out that it was a rite of passage to have your hair cut by your parents, with one person commenting: “Pfft, have you even lived if you haven’t had a ‘mum cut’.”

Rachael later took to her stories to reveal she had taken Dom to a barbershop for another haircut.

“OK, so this will make a lot of people who left a negative comment on my post yesterday, happy,” she captioned a photo of Dom having his hair trimmed.

“And FYI, I cut his hair myself because it’s something I enjoy doing, and because Dom’s hair was getting so long it was in his eyes.”

In a separate post Rachael also thanked those who had defended her, saying that while she does “value constructive criticism” some nasty comments “still do get to me”.

“Nonetheless I know there’s so many of you out there who actually have the most kindest of hearts. It’s honestly so inspiring,” she wrote.

“Keep spreading that stuff everywhere, the world needs it more than ever right now!”
