Woman shares terrifying birth side-effect no one talks about

A US mum who had a traumatic birth has detailed the “shock” side-effect she had no idea could happen – and others are equally surprised.

A US mum has revealed she was left with broken blood vessel in her face and eyes after giving birth – with the effects leaving her “scared” to look in a mirror for weeks after.

The side-effect is common during labour and can last for around two weeks according to Babycenter, a medically reviewed parenting resource website.

But when Yelena shared her experience in a video posted to her TikTok account, viewers were stunned.

The mum, who had an natural birth, was left with visible broken blood vessels all around her face and in her eyes from the intense pushing.

And after seeing her reflection in the mirror after giving birth to her son, she said she was “shocked”.

“I was scared to look on the mirror the first couple days. I’ve never seen anything like that,” she wrote in the comments.

“It took forever to heal and I just wanted to hide in a hole.”

However, Yelena said it was all worth it though for her son.

Her viral video has clocked up more than 727,000 views after she touched on the issue in a previous video and was asked a question about her bloodshot eyes by a follower.

“Yep, it’s definitely something that can happen from the pushing, and it happened to me,” she explained.

“I’m going to show you a picture but don’t get scared because it was really, really bad.

“So yeah I definitely didn’t get that cute hospital photo with my baby.”

The mum also revealed she had broken blood vessels in her neck and that she was “so surprised, I never knew this could happen”.

Many viewers were just as shocked by the effect and praised the new mum for being so strong.

“Just learnt something new, terrified,” one woman stated.

“That’s it. I am definitely not having children,” another claimed.

While one mother said: “I got this too! All over my face and body.”

Others praised Yelena and mothers as a collective for being so “amazing”.

“Mums really are everything,” one wrote, while one said: “The picture! This is why I LOVE mums.”
