Mother says she cried after finding out she was having a second son
Nicole Shamlin posted the perfect gender reveal footage to social media - then shared what was really happening.
A mother has shared that she cried after discovering she was having a second son following a gender reveal party.
US mother Nicole Shamlin shared a video to TikTok of her celebrating with friends and family about discovering the gender of her second child.
Ms Shamlin was laughing and cheering as blue smoke and streamers came out of a large popper held by her husband, Holden.
She revealed that what people did not see was her, later that day, crying in bed over the news.
“Me later that night grieving the fact I’m not getting my baby girl just yet,” Ms Shamlin wrote over a clip of her teary eyed, curled up in bed.
“How can I love another boy? Will I be replacing my first son? How can I love two sons?”
The 24-year-old revealed that while she felt severe gender disappointment on the day it was a fleeting feeling and she is now beyond excited to welcome a second son into their family.
Many social media users lashed out at Ms Shamlin after the video was seen by more than 250,000 people.
“This is sad. I went through years of IVF. I was just thankful to have one live child. Healthy is what you should care about, not the sex,” one person said.
Another said: “I am sure there are plenty of mothers who would take that baby boy off your hands.”
However, the majority of people were supportive and said they felt the exact same way when they discovered they were having another child of the same sex.
One social media user revealed they had six sons and that her love only grew with each one, giving comfort to Ms Shamlin.
Another said: “I cried at my ultrasound when I found out he was a boy. I feel awful now because he’s amazing, of course, but pregnancy hormones are crazy. It will be OK!”

Others were appreciative that Ms Shamlin showed the truth behind what she went through.
Now, 28 weeks along, Ms Shamlin continues to share her life and pregnancy journey on social media.
