Parents issue warning after gas heater sets toddler on fire
Parents have been issued a terrifying warning after a toddler was set alight within seconds of coming near a common household appliance.
Parents have been issued a chilling warning after a toddler was set alight by a common household appliance.
After standing in front of a gas heater for just 30 seconds, flames began burning through the back of a two-year-old boy’s onesie.
When his dad noticed the smell of fire, he rushed to extinguish the flames before they could burn through his son’s skin.
The little boy’s mum shared a warning via the Tiny Hearts Education Instagram page this week, warning parents to always keep their children at least a metre away from the heater.
“My 2 year old son was standing in front of the gas heater in his Onesie. I was in the bathroom at the time,” the mum recalled.
“Thankfully my husband was still home and quickly put it out. My son didn’t even feel that he was on fire my husband smelt it, saw the flame and quickly responded.
“He was in front of it for less than 30 seconds before catching fire.”
A photo showed the back of the boy’s outfit with a sizeable hole in it from the top of his thigh up to his lower back, exposing his nappy.
Tiny Hearts Education advised families to get their gas heaters serviced every two years and keep flammable materials at least one metre away from the heater.
It also reminded parents that clothing with a “low fire danger” was still flammable.
“Always keep children away from open heat sources such as fire places and gas stoves,” the post read.
â Other parents responded thanking the page for sharing the warning.
“Thank you so much for posting. ï¸Love your work. I’m so glad things worked out for this family,” one person wrote in a comment.
“Holy cow. Imagine if the dad wasn’t close by. Good to know about flammables,” another said.
“That is so scary,” a third wrote. â
