A woman has left social media users stumped over an unusual fitting in her bathroom – but we’ve got to the bottom of the bizarre find.

A picture of an unusual shower fitting found in an Australian woman’s bathroom has bamboozled social media.
A facebook user named Mina posted the snap to an online group in the hopes that someone could help figure out what the purpose of this mysterious shower item.
“We moved in recently, and I can’t work out what this is in the shower?” she posted.
“Both showers have it – any idea?

“It slopes down, it doesn’t really hold a soap bar.”

Some people in the comments were also confused by the ceramic shower item, with many saying they had never seen anything like it before.
“It looks like a soap holder that has been installed upside down, very odd” one person suggested.
“Yes, I think it’s a soap holder that's been put in the wrong way” agreed another.
But despite the speculation, there was no concrete answer – until now.

Researching more into the product, it was discovered that the mystery item was actually a foot rest, which would come in handy when shaving your legs.
Speaking to a distributer of the product, news.com.au found out that while these installations were once very popular, interest in them died down significantly after the 1990s.
“That looks to me like a ceramic foot rest, quite common throughout the 70s-90s a bit less popular today” a spokesperson for Beaumont Tiles said.
“They are designed for those shaving their legs to prop their foot on for stability and balance so they don’t slip while shaving.”

After uncovering what the shower item did, many Facebook users in the comments were amazed at the discovery.
“Wow, amazing and so random to have!” the original poster said.
“This was all the rage in the 1990s” another pointed out.
Others joked that there could other uses for the foot rest besides shaving your legs.
“It’s to make ‘coupling’ easier in the shower” one said.
“It’s there to help you have some fun shower time” another commented.
