‘Next level’ detail in Kmart pantry makeover goes viral on TikTok

A Queensland woman has gone viral after transforming her pantry for $285 – but there is one detail in particular blowing people away.

Pantry makeover goes viral on TikTok

When Renei Koko decided to share a three-minute video of her kitchen pantry she never expected it to get the reaction it did.

Since posting it to TikTok earlier this month, the clip has been viewed over 2.9 million times. But it was her use of one particular $25 Kmart item which had people going crazy.

Ms Koko, 29, has always loved home organisation, ever since she was a child when she would help out around the family home.

“My mum, she used to do incentives for me to do chores around the house,” the Queensland woman, who runs TikTok account @reneikoko, told news.com.au.

“Over time I just developed a habit of just being really satisfied once a good job was done.”

While she had always kept her pantry tidy, Ms Koko wanted to find a way to make her kitchen storage more functional.

“It was organised before but it wasn’t aesthetically pleasing,” she said with a laugh.

Ms Koko spent $285 on products from Kmart for the pantry makeover which included different-sized glass containers, a spice stand and jars, wooden trays for condiment storage and plastic baskets to store snacks.

“I started off by getting the containers and figuring out what could go where,” she said.

“Then I went back to Kmart because I figured if I am going to do this I’m going to do the whole thing.”

The most expensive single item was a “game changer” – two pullout drawer sliding organisers for $25 each in the bottom of her pantry.

“It’s to make better use of the space, because it’s so low you have to bend down,” Ms Koko said. “I did it more as a function so it is easier to be accessible and easier to maintain.”

For the finishing touch, Ms Koko added strip lights for “ambience” which also helps her see what is inside pantry.

All up the pantry makeover took just a few hours over two days and Ms Koko said she is over the moon with the results.

“It still looks exactly the same as what did (when I organised it),” she said. “It means that it is maintainable and it is functional for everyone to use.”

Others have also praised the pantry makeover, describing it as “beyond satisfying to watch” with a “gorgeous end result”.

“You took it that step further and added slide-out shelves and friken’ lights. I love it,” one person wrote.

“This is next level,” another commented.

Since making over her pantry not only has it stayed tidy, but it has also helped her to cut down on food waste.

“I can see everything which is really good,” Ms Koko said. “I can see if something is running low or needs refilling, so I am not buying too much of things.”

She hopes that by showing her pantry makeover on TikTok, she will inspire others to do their own home organisation.

“You’re capable of doing these things yourself. My videos hope to inspire and motivate people,” Ms Koko said.
