Mum sparks huge trend in Kmart side tables hack

An Adelaide woman has shocked hundreds of online users after she transformed a Kmart item – but it comes with a warning.

'Genius' Kmart bread bin hack goes viral

An Adelaide woman has sparked a huge trend after she transformed a pair of wooden side tables into a handy pot plant.

The savvy mum took to popular Facebook group – Kmart Inspired Homes – where she shared her clever hack.

“Had these tables for ages then an idea struck me!” she said about the $52 Kmart items.

The Anko set features a large oak table at 38cm high and a small version at 32cm high.

However, instead of resting pot plants on top of the flat surface, she decided to flip each table, which exposed a hollow interior.

The mum then placed a tall, leafy faux plant inside each table.

She joked in the comments section it took “12 months to think of it”.

The simple yet effective idea was praised by hundreds of members in the group, with many eager to give it a go.

“Thank you for sharing! It’s a brilliant idea,” one woman wrote.

“Oh what a great idea!! I got these the other day to fill this corner but haven’t liked how they look,” another woman said, sharing a snap of the wooden tables.

“Might give this a try!” she said, adding “My plants are real tho”.

Another wrote: “Love it️! I did this for a previous update with a pair of metal drum tables with cut outs.”

The mum described it as an “easy hack”.

Some were shocked the tables were hollow inside.

“What the actual f**k. Never thought of it. I’m totally turning mine over now,” one stunned user wrote.

“I wish I would’ve thought about that before I gave mine away last week!!” said another.

Some pointed out that while it is a great idea for fake plants, you would need to be “really careful” with real plants as any over watering would wreck the table tops – and the material could grow mould.

After her post blew up, the mum commented that she “didn’t think” she would get such a huge reaction.

“It’s gone nuts,” she wrote.
