Aldi selling $159 ‘mattress in box’, saving hundreds on rival brands
Aldi are bringing back an item fans have declared “cheaper and more comfortable” than expensive versions that retail as high as $1000.
The German retailer has brought back its ‘mattress in a box’ due to popular demand.
The last time Aldi sold the bedroom item it was snapped up in a matter of minutes and the same is expected to happen again when it lands in stores next week as part of its Special Buys.
The ‘mattress in a box range’ starts from $159 for a single to $299 for a king and is an affordable alternative to other big-name brands that often retail for close to $1000.
“We’ve bought several over the years, quality for cost is fantastic. Have owned expensive mattresses but these are just as good if not better,” one shopper wrote on Instagram recently.
The Aldi mattress (by Estelle) features premium pocket spring technology, a layer of memory foam for enhanced support, and a polyester jacquard quilted fabric, perfect to pop open and fall into a deep slumber on.
It is sold in a cardboard box that is easy to unfold.
“While we enjoy surprising customers with unexpected new products, we definitely take our customers’ feedback into consideration when it comes to bringing back Special Buys which have been extremely popular, like the Mattress In A Box,” an Aldi spokesperson told news.com.au.
The item that was last in stores in August 2021 and since it was a huge hit, Aldi is encouraging customers seeking a good night’s sleep to make a trip to its middle aisle on April 9 “as we know that Aussies love this must-have bedroom item”.
Others have since declared it as the “most comfortable” mattresses they have ever purchased.
“We bought one for our toddler last year and it’s been amazing, so comfy and he sleeps so well on it. Hubby and I always fall asleep on it when we lay with him.,” a mum wrote online. “I bought a single for my son and it is the best mattress in the house for a lot less money than the others. Looking to get another one now,” another added.
It comes as the budget retailer announced its Bedroom Refresh and Dreamy Threads SpecialBuys ranges which hits stores on April 6 and 9.
Also available as part of the new range is a matching wooden side table ($49.99) and a bookshelf ($149).
Aldi will also have antimicrobial protectors selling between $29.99 for a single and $49.99 for a king.
If you want to jazz up your bedroom, there is a mid-century bedside table on offer for $49.99. It features two drawers on metal runners and solid pinewood legs and is available in white and natural.
If you have a spare room or a smaller bedroom — the sofa bed for $299 will come in handy. It’s features a simple click-clack mechanism that transforms your sofa into a sofa bed. So essentially it’s a two-in-one.
The budget retailer will also dabble in clothing with children’s onesies ($14.99), a whole range of cosy flannelette PJ sets (from $11.99), and plush fleece robes on offer for $17.99.
