Woolworths reveals crazy fact about ‘famous’ $11 item
Woolworths has shared an insane fact about its $11 item which is its most popular food product after fresh produce.
If there is one Woolworths item customers can’t seem to get enough of, it’s the roast chicken.
In a TikTok that has amassed more than 20,000 views, staffer Liam Kirley, who runs the chain’s page, revealed Woolies goes through a whopping 4500 tonnes of barbecue chooks each year.
He listed five facts about the “famous” $11 item with the retailer’s 83,000 followers.
“Fact number one: Roast chicken is our most popular food product after fresh produce,” he begins the clip.
“Fact number two: We sell 4500 tonnes of roast chickens each year which is the equivalent of seven Airbus 8380s.”
The airbus is the world’s largest passenger airliner with a maximum certified capacity for 853 passengers. That’s a lot of chicken.
“When the weather gets warmer our chickens fly off the shelves,” Liam joked as he revealed the third fact, adding, “Christmas is our most popular time too.”
“Fact number four: The stuffing inside is made of delicious breadcrumbs and country-style herbs.”
And as for the fifth and final fact, Liam said when it comes to which state loves the roast chooks the most, it’s a battle between two.
“It’s neck and neck between Queensland and NSW because they’re our most popular states with roast chickens.”
One TikTok user wasn’t all that surprised the item was such a hit.
“I think any Aussie knows that when the heat season comes around for us … good luck getting one of our chooks lol,” they wrote.
It comes after Liam shared another post last week about how its popular finger buns are made – except the post caused a bit of a stir.
In the TikTok, which has since been viewed almost half a million times, Liam gave followers a step-by-step guide of how the store makes its classic iced finger buns which are priced at $3 for a pack of four.
However, while many raved about how good the bakery item tastes, others said they lacked one thing – icing.
“Mate love the finger buns – they where my childhood – but they never had enough icing,” one person wrote.
“Needs more icing,” said another, with a third agreeing: “Not enough icing though.”
One shopper suggested to “put icing around the whole thing but the bottom”.
But, news.com.au understands Woolies currently has no plans to change its finger bun recipe.
“It’s great to hear excitement around our Woolworths Iced Finger Bun range, which has been a customer favourite since it launched,” a Woolworths spokesperson said.
“As always, we appreciate customer feedback and look forward to rolling out fresh new ideas from our bakery in the months and year ahead.”
