A sellout Kmart cleaning item that has been dubbed a dupe of a much more expensive version has returned to shelves, delighting shoppers.

'Sell out' $99 Kmart item causing a stir

A $99 item from Kmart is being compared to a brand item with a much higher price point, dividing social media.

Kmart has a Spot Cleaner that is available in store and online in Australia and New Zealand, with the item allowing shoppers to clean upholstery.

TikTok user @threeriverscleaning reviewed the spot cleaner and said it looked good for its price, adding it came with attachments and a three-metre cord.

The New Zealand woman said it worked well and was incredibly easy to use.

One TikTok user, known as @jenjoojoo, said she’d seen social media videos comparing the $99 Kmart item to one from Bissell, which can retail for $238.

“The video won me over so I went and got it. I think the only difference is the Kmart nozzle is smaller,” Jen told her followers.

Other social media users were equally impressed with the find and expressed they had been eager to purchase the cleaner but hadn’t been able to find in store or online.

“That’s if you can get a hold of it. been waiting nearly a month for it to come in stock again. Our couch needs a clean,” one social media user commented on the clip.

Another shared their own experience using it, revealing; “OMG I did my car mats and the water was filthy really dark. I was like love the spot cleaner,” another said.

“I just got one and omg I was shocked at the choccy milk water when I did my car,” one said.

Another added: “Kmart is truly the gift that keeps on giving.”

“Seriously! I have a new puppy. and a Bissell turbo is USELESS! It’s barely been used and it won’t suck or work. I will def be giving this cheapy a go,” one revealed.

However, not everyone agreed with the reasons the product was popular, with one saying; “I bought one and now it’s still in my garage because it doesn’t work.”

One added: “Just buy wet and dry vac and attachment will be much better.”

“That’s not quality, suction is bad. You should have about the same amount dirty water as you did clean and it doesn’t have a brush to scrub at stains,” another said.

A Kmart spokesperson told news.com.au that the spot cleaner was restocked in stores and online last week.

“With features including a water spray function, scrubbing brush, and vacuum head designed specifically for pet hair – it’s never been easier for our customers to clean their upholstery and carpets,” the spokesperson said.

“Valued at just $99, this spot cleaner is a must have in your home cleaning kit.”
