Shopper’s next-level act with Coles bags
One woman has shared the elaborate cleaning routine she has for her supermarket bags – and it’s prompted a very mixed reaction.
For most of us, reusable supermarket bags either live in the car, scrunched up down the side of the fridge (an Aussie tradition) or just about any way that doesn’t involve storing them neatly.
But one Aussie shopper has gone viral after sharing the next-level way she cleans and stores her reusable bags from Coles – and you’ll definitely feel inspired to pick up your game.
In a video that’s been viewed 124,000 times, TikTok user Em shared how she cleaned her bags after going grocery shopping.
After using the bags, Em wiped them down and hung them on a clothes rack inside out so they could dry.
Then she turned them right side round and folded them into triangles before tucking the final triangle inside the bag handle to keep it secure.
Finally Em took her folded back and neatly stacked them inside a cardboard box ready for the next time she needed to use them.
Her video got more than 190 comments from viewers who were equal parts blown away and in disbelief over the shopper’s move.
“Not gonna lie this is so satisfying,” one person commented.
“You must be in lockdown,” another joked.
Em’s video even got some thanks in the comments from supermarket workers, who praised her from not bringing “mouldy” bags to shop with.
“The amount of times I’ve got to pack a bag that was muddy with old spinach stuck to the sides, thank you,” one checkout worker wrote.
But others claimed her method was too much work and it was “more practical” to just store the bags after you had used them.
“I admire your dedication but there is absolutely no way I will ever do this ever,” one person commented.
“I can’t even fold my laundry,” another wrote.
Warning over reusable bag-folding hack
Last month another viral TikTok about storing and folding reusable supermarket bags prompted a warning from supermarket workers.
TikTok star and Adelaide mum Emmy Rachelle shared how she had folded all her bags up to store them better.
The video was viewed more than 168,000 times, but some supermarket workers said they disliked the folding method as it made their job more difficult at the checkout.
“As a checkout chick I hate having to undo the plastic when they are folded like that but awesome space saving hack,” one person wrote.
