Why today is the worst day of the year

BRACE yourself. Today is going to suck. On the bright side, you're already halfway through it. So what makes it the most depressing day of the year?

Don't get out of bed...

WELCOME back to Earth. Did you come crashing down with a thud this morning?

Today is the most depressing of the year as the holidays end and the daily grind resumes.
A UK study has found the first Monday back at work after Christmas and the New Year is the saddest on the calendar, the Daily Mail reports.

The research is taken from a tool called the Upbeat Barometer, which measures a random sample of tweets every day and comes up with a value on the so-called happiness index between 0 and 100.

The first work day in January has the lowest happiness score of the whole year - a sad 49.

And what are we complaining about? A lack of sleep, an inability to stick to our New Year's resolutions, and guilt for all that bad food and drink we consumed over the holidays, according to the analysis.

The happiest days of the year are Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, with a staggering score of 100 on the happiness index.

It's followed by New Year's Day (91), Valentine's Day (81) and the first sunny weekend of the year (72).
