Abbie Chatfield’s on-air ‘meltdown’ over body issue women face
Abbie Chatfield has let rip over a body issue women “hate” after she received a flood of messages in response to one of her Instagram stories.
Abbie Chatfield had a “full meltdown” on-air after revealing she received comments from strangers who wrongly assumed she’s pregnant.
The 26-year-old said she was “so angry” and “so sick” of people constantly asking if she’s expecting – revealing the tiresome situation happened again on the weekend after she attended a wedding.
After telling followers the next morning she was “throwing up”, many jumped to the wrong conclusion, suggesting Abbie – who is dating Konrad Bien-Stephens – could be expecting.
“People DM’d me, people that I personally know, ‘are you pregnant?’” she said on Monday night’s Hot Night’s With Abbie radio show.
“First of all, if I was pregnant, do you think I’d be telling you via a cryptic Instagram story?
“You think you stranger DMing me saying ‘are you pregnant’ I am going to go you know what, ‘yeah 13 weeks’.”
The former Bachelor star – who found fame on the 2019 season – then went on to talk about the wider social issue women face.
“Despite what Hollywood wants you to believe, a woman vomiting does not equal pregnant. Get an absolute grip,” Abbie stated.
“I am sick of people seeing women with any kind of a uterus or stomach fat and then saying ‘oh she must be pregnant’.”
Abbie then detailed a shock incident in which images of her body where taken by paparazzi when she was 23 and filming The Bachelor.
“I hadn’t even spoken to Matt Agnew yet and there were photos of me saying ‘secret love child of the Bachelor’.
“Honestly, first of all I just don’t have a completely flat stomach, but second of all, how would that even be possible?
“Was I inseminated at the audition? Is that what happened? How would I be pregnant enough at the first date?”
Her lengthy (and justified) rant continued with Abbie stating she understands her own body and knows when her menstrual cycle is, adding she’s also acutely aware of “the constant threat of pregnancy”.
“Stop assuming every pregnant with a uterus is pregnant if they vomit, if they’re bloated or if their stomach isn’t flat. I am really sick of it. Let me be hungover.”
Her HIT Network colleagues appeared to enjoy Abbie’s “fully fledged rant”, describing it as a “full Abbie meltdown” on the official Instagram page for her week night radio show.
Most people in the comments agreed with the star, some women even sharing their own stories.
“I had someone ask how long until I was due the other day. I was so shocked I said a couple of months,” one wrote.
“I’m VERY single and not at all under constant threat of pregnancy but it’s literally the first question people will ask if I mention I’ve been unwell. Like…god did not wait 2022 years for the next immaculate conception to be me,” another commented.
One woman said: “Hate people asking this question/assuming this, toward women. My ex-mother in law *always* made comments like this whenever I was unwell/put on weight, so I started replying with, “where we have sex, babies don’t come from”. She soon stopped.”
Abbie has become well loved for her outspoken views, most recently shooting down critics who slammed her decision to be in an open-relationship with Konrad.
