Bec Judd outraged over exercise loophole in coronavirus lockdown

A loophole has been exposed, revealing Victorians with COVID-19 can leave their homes for one reason – and Bec Judd is furious.

Coronavirus: How Australia leads the world in COVID-19 ICU survival rates

Rebecca Judd is not shy when it comes to condemning Australians who refuse to self-isolate, wear a mask or download the COVID app.

And now the footy WAG has directed her frustration towards Victorian officials who are allowing people who have tested positive to coronavirus leave their homes to exercise.

The loophole was exposed on Tuesday during an exchange between a reporter and Victoria’s chief health officer Brett Sutton which meant those who have COVID did not require to remain in their homes for 14 days.

“People who have no garden and have no other option … have a right to exercise,” Prof Sutton said.

“So the Victorian Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities is clear that if you are not giving people an option to exercise then you are effectively putting them in prison and that is not something that can be done for a case of coronavirus or for anyone else for that matter.”

Judd, 37, took to her Instagram stories on Wednesday to slam the statement, writing: “FFS Victoria (eye-roll emoji). It’s a pandemic.”

She added: “COVID-positive people should not be allowed to leave their houses. Just like in all the other states (facepalm emoji).”

According to the 2006 Act which Prof Sutton was referencing, unlike in other states, it allows for all Victorians to continue to exercise outside of their homes, even if they have coronavirus.

Section 21 of the act “Right to liberty and security of person” dictates that “a person must not be subjected to arbitrary arrest or detention”.

The state recorded 295 new coronavirus cases and nine new deaths yesterday with Melbourne almost halfway through a six-week lockdown aimed at curbing community spread of the virus.

Victorians are also one week into wearing mandatory face masks which became law on July 23, with residents risking a $200 fine if they go outside without a face covering.

Last Wednesday, Judd, who is also a radio host, uploaded a photo of herself modelling a designer mask, along with a strong message.

“Wear a mask and stay at home if you’re feeling unwell or you’re awaiting a COVID test result,” she said.

More than 950 cases of COVID-19 have been linked to aged-care facilities in Victoria, with active outbreaks across 87 separate centres, as 295 new cases were recorded across the state on Wednesday.
