Parmesan cheese is going viral thanks to a tweet that has shared the confronting truth about what the cheese is made of.

It’s the cheese people typically use to garnish their pasta and is loved for its rich and bold flavour.

It is also commonly used in soups and risottos and you can even make a pasta called Parmesan pasta.

It is a cupboard staple, an iconic cheese, and a classic for a reason.

Before you get too comfortable, your views on the cheese may be shattered.

You see, someone on Twitter has revealed the truth about parmesan, and it is the PR disaster none of us saw coming.

The tweet explained that Parmesan is made from rennet, an enzyme that typically comes from the stomach of calves — meaning it isn’t a vegetarian friendly option.

“Today, years old, when I found out Parmesan cheese is made from a baby cow’s stomach and I could go cry. I’m just going to have to go full vegan at this point,” the tweet read.

It has since been viewed over 100,000 times, and the tweet was immediately met with horrified cheese fans.

“Wow, I had never heard that! Dairy is scary,” someone wrote.

“Horrifying! Why are we eating baby anything as a species,” another asked.

Someone commented: “I feel violated.”

Not everyone was shocked by the news, though.

“The best cheese is made with natural rennet … if you don’t know how cheese is made, it’s cause you only use the internet to post tiktoks and watch Netflix,” someone explained via tweet. .
