Not many people know about it but Woolworths has confirmed a section of cut-price groceries exists along and when you can nab the reduced items.

Easy budget hacks to save your family $$

An Aussie woman has revealed a money-saving secret about Woolworths some shoppers may not know about.

The woman took to a popular Facebook group with just over 70,000 members to share how she managed to score a bunch of items worth more than $27, for less than half price.

She explained Woolworths has a “secret section” often found at the “end of the last aisle” where you can find a variety of heavily reduced products.

“I’m not sure if this is everywhere but over the past few months at the Woolies near me they have started a reduced section for shelf items that are slightly damaged or nearing their use by date,” the woman wrote in the Facebook group Budgeting, Food, Savings Ideas, Stockpiling, Life Help Australia.

“It’s usually at the end face of the last isle. I love it!! Always a few bargains there.

Her grocery bill came to about $10 after nabbing items on sale including two Kit Kats for 35 cents each, Bega smooth peanut butter for $1.89, strawberry Oak milk for $2.79 and Oc Naturals body wash for just $2.80.

“It’s so good that they sell all that stuff now rather than chuck it like they used to,” the shopper wrote.

It didn’t take long for her post to attract comments from fellow shoppers also aware of the budget-saving section.

“Literally my fav part of woollies. Great score,” one excited customer wrote.

For those wondering if the section exists, a Woolworth spokesperson confirmed to news.com.au it does, however it varies from store to store.

The spokesperson said the items are occasionally marked down to minimise food and product waste.

“The availability of markdowns will vary from day to day, and store to store, based on stock levels and demand,” the spokesperson explained.

It comes after another customer recently claimed to have discovered the best time to visit stores if you’re wanting to have your pick of that day’s reduced items.

She revealed there’s a new code appearing on Woolworths “Quick Sale” items, which are usually products nearing their expiry date such as meat, bread and milk.

Sharing two photos, one a piece of topside pork that had been reduced from $27.28 to $16.37 and the other a carton of milk down from $3.20 to $1.86, she highlighted a little four digit code in the corner.

She claimed this number reveals when an item was marked down to clear – and if you looked at everything that had been reduced, you could decipher the time that stores get to work labelling the food items for clearance.

“I believe I’ve found a time stamp for when the markdowns happen on Woolies’ new labels,” she wrote in the Simple Savers Facebook group.

Her stealthy investigative work was met with praise from other bargain hunters in the group, who branded the discovery “amazing”.
