Popular KFC item returns with a ‘sweet new twist’

A popular KFC menu item that hasn’t been seen on Australian shores since 2021 is back for a limited time only.

Yes, the rumours are true.

KFC’s much-loved double – in which the fast-food giant’s chicken acts as burger buns – is finally making its much-awaited return to Australia, and it’s bringing along a friend – the new waffle double.

Last seen on Australian menus in 2021, KFC’s beloved zinger double and original double are finally back, with the original double featuring KFC’s new original crispy fillets.

The double became an instant favourite when it first arrived on Australia’s shores back in 2011, and fans will no doubt be excited to hear that a delicious new variation will also be available to try – the waffle double.

Imagine biting into a fluffy golden waffle, bacon and smoky maple mayo packed between two original crispy chicken fillets, with its sweet, savoury and smokey flavours combined into one mouth watering treat.

KFC Australia chief marketing officer Tami Cunningham said the double was one of KFC’s most requested menu items, and KFC was excited to bring it back, “this time with a sweet new twist”.

“We’re sure fans will be rushing in to get their hands on the new waffle double and original double, alongside the returning zinger double,” Ms Cunningham said.

“This triple double threat won’t be hanging around forever though, so mark the date in the calendar and get amongst it.”

Chicken lovers will have to get in quickly, with the special items available for a limited time only, from Tuesday, June 11 until Monday, July 8.

The waffle double, the original double and the zinger double will be available as a stand-alone treat or in a combo or box at participating restaurants nationwide. Fans can also order it for delivery from the comfort of their own home through the KFC app.
