Warning Ikea coffee maker could burst and cause burns
A coffee maker sold nationally has been recalled over concerns a defect may cause it to burst and injure someone.
A stovetop coffee maker sold at Ikea stores nationally and online has been recalled over concerns it could cause burns and serious injury.
The Metallisk espresso maker with the stainless-steel safety valve has been recalled due to a “manufacturing defect”.
The product is at risk of bursting because the safety valve may not function properly.
The responsible regulator, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, published the recall notice on its Product Safety Australia website on Wednesday.
However, it appears Ikea published the warning on its own recalls web page three weeks ago.
“If the espresso maker bursts during use, this can increase the risk of burns, scalding or serious injury,’ the ACCC notice read.
Consumers are advised to stop using the coffee maker immediately and return it to Ikea for a full refund or to exchange for a similar product.
The product in question has manufacturing date stamps between 2040 and 2204 (located at the bottom of the product).
A recall has also been issued in several other countries.
A statement on the company’s UK site said: “Ikea has received reports of the espresso maker bursting during use, due to a change of material and construction, with the potential of injury as a result.”
