’Disgusting’ find inside Coles salad

A NSW student was so horrified at what she found in her lunch yesterday that she had to stop herself from being sick.

Dead Insect Found In Supermarket Salad

A HORRIFIED student claims she has been left traumatised after she discovered a dead insect inside her supermarket caesar salad bowl.

Design student Zoe Anderson began “dry-retching” after allegedly finding the dead insect — which she believes to be a moth — in her salad.

The 22-year-old from Bonnells Bay, in the Lake Macquarie region of NSW, said she bought the salad yesterday at her local Coles.

After she was “nearly finished” eating the salad, Zoe said she was “horrified” after discovering the 3cm dead insect at the bottom of her meal — and had to stop herself from vomiting.

“I’d just gone to Coles to grab some lunch and I picked up the $5 caesar salad.

“I’d had it before and always enjoyed it. Just when I was nearly finished eating it, I looked down and noticed something at the bottom of the salad.

“I took a closer look and realised it was a dead insect. I was absolutely horrified.”

Zoe said she felt physically sick from the realisation.

“I started dry-retching and had to stop myself from vomiting everywhere. It was disgusting.

“I think it was a moth, but I’m not really sure. It had wings though.

“I can’t believe it was in there, and the worst part I’d already nearly finished. It was so gross.

“It was pretty big too. It made me feel so sick.

“I was just in disbelief that I’d pretty much eaten the whole salad without noticing it.

“Then I started thinking, ‘Oh my god, what if I’ve eaten more?’ There could have been more bugs in there that I didn’t see.

“This was the first time anything like this has ever happened to me. I won’t be buying Coles salads again.

“I’ll never forget it. I’m traumatised.”

A Coles spokesperson said: “Coles takes the quality of all our products seriously and has contacted the customer to follow up their complaint.

“We guarantee our Coles brand products, and as always encourage customers to return any item they’re not 100 per cent happy with to their nearest store for a full refund or replacement.”
