Woman’s savvy meat hack impresses shoppers

A Woolworths shopper has revealed the “surprise” location inside stores where customers can nab reduced meat.

‘Surprise’ spot to score cheap Woolies meat

An Aussie mum shopper has shared a handy tip for scoring cut-price meat.

While some may already be aware, the TikTok user said she was “pleasantly surprised” when she found a variety of discounted beef buys, not in the meat aisle, but in the butcher shop.

“Shoppers, don’t forget to check the butcher shop inside of Woolworths,” she said in a clip.

“Normal meat section – nothing on sale. The butcher shop had so many sales!”

The Woolies shopper added she had “never ever check there, and I was pleasantly surprised!”

She shared footage of a variety of different cut meats in the butcher section, which have all been marked for “quick sale”.

“This is such an awesome tip! Thanks! My local one only recently has opened the butcher section!!” one TikTok user replied.

It comes after Woolies employer Liam Kirley, who runs the chain’s TikTok page, revealed the best-selling meat item after fresh produce is the retailers “famous” roasted chook.

“Fact number one: Roast chicken is our most popular food product after fresh produce,” Liam said in a video posted earlier this week.

“Fact number two: We sell 4500 tonnes of roast chickens each year which is the equivalent of seven Airbus 8380s.”

Liam also said when it comes to which state loves the roast chooks the most, it’s a battle between Queensland and New South Wales.

“It’s neck and neck between Queensland and NSW because they’re our most popular states with roast chickens.”

One TikTok user wasn’t all that surprised the item was such a hit.

“I think any Aussie knows that when the heat season comes around for us … good luck getting one of our chooks lol,” they wrote.

Liam also shared a TikTok about how Woolies’ popular finger buns are made – except the post caused a bit of a stir.

In the TikTok, which has since been viewed almost half a million times, Liam gave followers a step-by-step guide of how the store makes its classic iced finger buns which are priced at $3 for a pack of four.

However, while many raved about how good the bakery item tastes, others said they lacked one thing – icing. “Mate, love the finger buns – they were my childhood – but they never had enough icing,” one person wrote.

Despite shoppers desperate desire for more icing, news.com.au understands Woolies currently has no plans to change its finger bun recipe.

“It’s great to hear excitement around our Woolworths Iced Finger Bun range, which has been a customer favourite since it launched,” a Woolworths spokesperson said.

“As always, we appreciate customer feedback and look forward to rolling out fresh new ideas from our bakery in the months and year ahead.”
