A Coles and Woolies shopper has revealed the very simple way she claims to save big money on her grocery bill each week.

Genius hack to get cheaper groceries

An Aussie woman has revealed the very simple way she manages to save $80 a week on her grocery bills.

It all comes down to timing and thinking ahead.

In a TikTok video, the Coles and Woolies shopper explains how she orders her groceries over two separate days to make sure she gets the cheapest deals possible.

It could already be something you’re doing – but if not, it’s a little effort that could possibly save you a lot.

The woman, who goes by the handle ‘aloo.tikki.tok’ on the social media platform, explained in her now deleted video that when Coles and Woolies release their online catalogue on Tuesday – that’s when she shops.

She selects a bunch of items that are on special and adds them to her online cart.

But – and the most important part – she doesn’t actually purchase the items until the next day.

Why? Because specials don’t come into effect until Wednesday at 12.01am.

The woman claimed the simple act saves her $80 a week off her bill.

“I check out the new catalogue every Tuesday, add items to cart and then checkout my cart when the sale starts,” she said. “Saved around $80!”

It’s also one way of getting in early, before the items sell out.

Another woman recently revealed how she managed to save $61.50 on her bill while shopping in-stores at her local Coles.

Taking to the popular Facebook group, Markdown Madness Australia, the woman explained how she bought five trays of pork loin chops that would normally cost her $65, for just $3.50.

“Picked these up from Coles Mooroopna. Collected 5 trays of pork loin chops, normal price would have cost around $65 for the 5 trays – got them for about $3.50 all up,” she captioned the post.

After sharing details of her huge savings to the group, the Victorian woman’s post attracted hundreds of ‘likes’ and comments from fellow-bargain hunters eager to know the “best time” to shop at the retail store.

While special offers vary from store to store, the woman said it’s “usually around 5pm or 6pm in the evening” when customers can nab great discounts.

It’s also the time staff often slash prices on produce due to expire the following day.

Another woman from the same town in country Victoria also shared details of her cheap find.

The mother-of-six from Mooroopna, 118km north of Melbourne, scored items for as little as 10c.

Her grocery haul included two-litre cartons of milk for just 20c, frankfurter sausages discounted to 17c, sliced ham at 32c and deli-style salami for 21c – and for 10c she got microwavable bags of carrots and vanilla yoghurt slashed to 10c.

She too said the evening is the best time for a bargain buy.

“I find that around 4pm to 6pm is a really common time for many supermarkets,” one person agreed.
