What is Australia’s favourite pizza topping?

It was mocked as a pizza only a child could eat. But the passionate fans of this topping have come out swinging and had their say.

Australia, you’re a weird bunch.

First you tell us your favourite fast food burger is the Filet-o-Fish. Then you are willingly to openly say that Mountain Dew is the best soft drink.

Now you’ve been hugely offended when we suggested that the humble ham and pineapple pizza was only acceptable for children to eat.

As part of news.com.au’s Australia’s Favourite, we wanted to find out what was your favourite pizza topping.

We suggested it couldn’t possibly be Hawaiian. How wrong we were.

Ham and pineapple got 26 per cent of the vote, easily ahead of Supreme.

But the comments, oh the comments.

Here is a selection of some of the defenders of the ham and pineapple.

Never change Australia.

• “I don’t care how old I get and I don’t care what anybody, including ALL of my friends say. Pineapple on a pizza is the best and only topping I will order, make or purchase. Thank you, that is all”

• “Someone should tell the author that less is more. Hawaiian is definitely the only one on my list”

• “People that get all uppity about pineapple on pizza are weird”

• “Next you’ll be telling me I can’t have Coco Pops or chocolate milk”

• “Stop telling people how to eat. Let people eat what they want”

• “Imagine trying to shame people about their choice of pizza topping by telling them to grow up, and then seeing it currently leading in the poll. I think trying to shame people for their personal preferences is a sure sign that you need to grow up”
