A popular UK breakfast item has made its way to Australia with custromers keen to try the viral product.
A popular UK breakfast item has made its way to Australia — leaving many excited.
Aldi released chocolate and strawberry Top Twists in stores this week. Many customers have compared them to Pop Tarts.
Marina, who runs social media account @macrofoodblogger, makes it her mission to find new foods in supermarkets and educate her followers on what is in them.
She was one of the first to post about the brand new item hitting the shelves.
“Guys, check out what is at Aldi. They’re called Top Twists Strawberry — they’re like Pop Tarts,” Marina told her followers.
“They come in chocolate too. Enjoy!”
She said that she personally wasn’t into them but she knew that a lot of her followers would be excited. She said they cost $3.99 and were a limited edition item.
Social media users were excited at the revelation the treat had come Down Under, with one saying; “I haven’t seen these but wow.”
Another said: “Need to try.”
One mother said her children loved the sugary treat, but others weren’t impressed with one calling it “ultra processed”.
Another added: “To many chemicals and additives for me.”
An Aldi spokesperson said the item had just launched in stores.
“We’re always happy to see our customers excited for a new product in their local stores. For those not yet in the know, Aldi has just launched the new Top Twists – a delicious, frosted toaster pastry available in chocolate and strawberry,” an Aldi spokesperson told news.com.au.
“These delicious pastries are also vegan friendly and contain no artificial flavours! Simply pop them in the toaster, and in a couple of minutes, these thin, buttery pastries are ready to enjoy.” “Top Twists are only here for a limited time only though, so don’t wait to get your mittens on them.”
It’s the first time Aldi Australia has had Top Twists hit shelves, but they were a limited edition item in the UK in 2023.
Shoppers couldn’t wait to try them. TikTok user Matthew Sanctuary called it “one of the most exciting product launches” he’d seen in a long time.
As a vegan, he missed having Pop Tarts due to the fact they contain gelatine. In Australia, the Top Twists are also suitable for vegetarians and vegans. In 2024, Aldi UK expanded the range and added a cookies and cream, and a cinnamon flavour.
