UK McDonald’s trialling chicken burger dubbed ‘better than KFC’

McDonald’s is trialling a new menu item with a “posh” sauce that already has customers declaring it’s so good, you no longer need to eat at KFC.

Macca’s drops two new epic desserts

McDonald’s is trialling a new chicken burger that is apparently so good, some have declared it is “better than KFC”.

Only available currently in the UK, the new Crispy McFillet burger features a crunchy chicken breast fillet between a “posh” sourdough-style bun that’s topped with truffle-flavoured mayo and retails for £4.19 ($7.36).

It’s being tested by Macca’s customers in 50 stores across Britain and Ireland over the next 14 weeks, but judging from the reaction, it’s fair to assume Australians will want to get their mitts on it too.

Many Brits who have tasted the burger, which was released on March 30, have described being shocked by the fast food chain’s latest offering.

“I usually go to KFC for chicken burgers, but this was so good,” one person wrote on Facebook.

“It’s better than the KFC fillet burger,” another said.

While another said: “I’ll never eat at KFC again.”

The fancy burger, which comes in a bright yellow box, also has a slight kick to it, with McDonald’s chief marketing officer for the UK and Ireland Michelle Graham-Clare describing it as having a “subtle heat”.

“The insta-worthy sourdough-style sesame bun is McDonald’s softest and most aesthetically pleasing yet,” she said.

“We really believe this newest addition to our menu is the tastiest chicken burger in the UK and Ireland and we cannot wait to hear what our customers think of it.”

It seems so far many diners are fans, with local publications across the pond all racing to taste test the menu item and report back to readers.

“I think the Crispy McFillet is better than the KFC burger I usually get,” Lynsey Barber, a reporter at The Sun wrote of the meal.

“I really liked the sourdough-style bread of the bun, compared to the standard pale sesame buns at KFC, which can be on the dry side and break apart.

“The new [McDonald’s] bun was more savoury and solid, keeping the rest of the ingredients firmly in place.

“The chicken itself had just the right crunch factor – but I think others who like theirs super crispy might disagree.”

She went on to explain though that it was the “posh sauce” that was her favourite part, stating it was “no ordinary mayo”.

“Truffle flavour has been sprinkled into this burger staple to add a fancy touch,” she said.

“I’ve had truffle oil before, drizzled over chips, and sometimes the rich taste can be far too overpowering.

“The McDonald’s chefs have got it just right though.”
