Toblerone ice cream released in UK, but Australia misses out

IT’S one of the latest treats to intrigue sweet tooths across the globe, but this new Toblerone-inspired product released overseas won’t be coming to Australia.

FIRST it was Cadbury Creme Egg that got the frozen treatment and now another sweet-tooth’s favourite, Toblerone, has been turned into ice cream. 2018 is proving to be a good year for all you chocolate lovers out there.

The popular Swiss chocolate bar that can be broken into triangular pieces (said to represent the shape of the Matterhorn mountain in the Alps) was originally created in 1908.

Now more than a century later, the humble nougat, almond and honey-filled treat, has been given the ultimate transformation.

The change has been met with mostly positive reactions — a far cry from the backlash the company, Mondelez International Inc., received last year when it made the space between the triangle pieces wider.

The change also meant a reduction in the number of grams in each Toblerone bar, and sparked outrage on the brand’s Facebook page as consumers complained.

The frozen treats come in triangle-shaped “chocolate-honey ice cream with Toblerone and nougat pieces”. Each ice cream is 100ml.

While UK fans are thrilled with the new reincarnation of their favourite chocolate bar, the rest of the world has been left disappointed — as the ice cream is not available outside the UK.

According to This Is Insider, it will not be sold in the US — but no official word on whether it will be brought to Australia yet. Maybe if there’s enough demand, we will get it one day.

An Australian spokeswoman for Mondelez International told News Corp Australia that the product would only be available overseas at this stage.

“But never say never,” she said.

“We are always looking for new and innovative snacks and treats.”
