Streets launches Golden Gaynetto ice cream, combining Golden Gaytimes and Cornettos

THIS is not a drill. Streets has launched a new hybrid dessert that combines the iconic Golden Gaytime and Cornetto ice creams.

JUST over a year after Streets famously launched 1.25L tubs of Golden Gaytime ice cream, it has now created another dessert hybrid — the Golden Gaytime Cornetto.

Dubbed the “Gaynetto”, the ice cream is the brain child of Sydney man Jesse James McElroy, the founder of the Golden Gaytime Icecream Project who famously campaigned Streets to introduce the 1.25L tubs.

Mr McElroy created a Gaynetto prototype and posted his design on his popular Facebook page last year. On Monday, he received a letter from Streets informing him of the brand’s decision to create the Gaynetto.

“This is what I was trying to achieve all of last year and I’m so stoked that it’s happening,” Mr McElroy told news.com.au.

“I’m still going to push for the extra biscuit crumbs,” he said, referring to his campaign for a separate packet of the Gaytime’s famous biscuit pieces, to be sold separately.

Streets senior brand manager Scott Mingl says the company has been inundated with requests for a Gaynetto.

“Streets has received letters out of Gaytime crumbs, petitions and social media requests. Everyone wants more Gaytimes and we’ve listened. It’s important to us to give fans what they want and Golden Gaynetto is exactly that,” he said in a statement.

Mr McElroy’s next goal is to get Streets to create a “Gaynnietta”, a “Gaytime version of the Viennetta ice cream”.

“If ice cream is sold on a stick, then it should also come in a tub. If it’s in a tub, chuck it on a stick,” he said.

From tomorrow, single serve Gaynettos ($3.20) will be sold in petrol stations and convenience stores, while four-packs will be available from Woolworths ($6.99).
