Shoppers are obsessed with Aldi’s latest Special Buys range
A new $20 item being sold in Aldi has sparked a mad rush among shoppers, but while some love the bargain product, others aren’t convinced.
Shoppers are raving about an “amazing” $20 Aldi item released as part of its latest Special Buys range.
The budget retailer released a streetwear collection comprised of 23 items, all under $20, which launched to huge crowds on April 13.
While the collection includes a T-shirt that comes in grey or white, priced at $7.99, as well as a grey sweatshirt, a navy hoodie and matching trackpants all retailing at $14.99, there was one item that really had shoppers in a spin.
But it was the $19.99 “Aldimania” sneakers that proved popular among the Australians who headed into stores early on Saturday.
The white shoes feature a colourful Aldi logo on the back with the lace eyelets matching the rainbow design.
“These are so cute, I must have,” one said.
“Running to Aldi right now,” shared someone else.
“Need these,” mused one, as someone else said: “I bought them, they’re so comfy.”
Meanwhile other shoppers shared videos of themselves queuing outside their local store in anticipation of the launch, which also included socks, a bucket hat, beanie, slides and a compact umbrella.
James Berko is one of the Sydneysiders who was waiting outside of the Aldi at Broadway shopping centre.
In the clip, it was clear Mr Berko wasn’t the only eager customer waiting for the doors of the supermarket to open up with others standing around beside him.
Before the electronic shutter door was even all the way up, Mr Berko was underneath and had snagged a basket and headed to the middle aisle.
“It’s on today at Aldi,” he said, as a large group of shoppers perused the range.
TikTok user @lifeofemily94 was also at her local Aldi first thing to snag the range, sharing a video titled: “Run to Aldi”.
But not everyone was a fan of Aldi’s new merch, with some sharing their surprise at the popularity.
“When these came out in the catalogue I thought it was an April fools joke. Lowkey want the tracksuit though,” one shopper said.
Another said: “People are actually buying these.”
Belinda Grice, Aldi Australia’s Buying Director for Aldimania, said the supermarket has sold apparel before, and hoped the new range would be well met.
“We have been offering our shoppers high-quality, affordable loungewear for years, but this is the first time we’ve brought our own brand of leisurewear to the middle aisles,” she said.
“Designed to celebrate and champion our shoppers, this new range is made specifically with Aldi budgets in mind, without compromising on quality or comfort.
“This unique collection that contains sustainably sourced or recycled materials, has been crafted to create a mix-and-match aesthetic, so customers can inject their own sense of styling around the range.”
