They say you can’t improve on perfection – but the makers of one of Australia’s most iconic chips have given it a try.

After making headlines in May with the announcement, chicken-flavoured Cheezels have finally landed on supermarket shelves, to the horror (and confusion) of some snack purists.

Beloved food blogger @nectoriouspapi came down on the side of poultry fiends, calling the new Cheezels iteration “a winner” in a review posted on Sunday.

“They look exactly the same (as the original Cheezels) but with a different sort of colour, it’s a strong chicken smell as soon as you open up the packet,” he said in the TikTok clip.

“Guys, these taste great … Definitely check them out.”

He went so far as to compare them to another nostalgic lunch box snack, Chickadees biscuits, albeit with a “better texture” because of Cheezels’ ring shape.

Dozens of viewers took to the review’s comments to weigh in, with some declaring “og (original) all the way”.

“No way Cheezles (sic) are my favourite,” another wrote.

“Saw them today and got a pack. They’re good but I prefer cheese,” a third said.

“Nope the original cheese always slaps,” someone else commented.

Other Aussies, however, were more open-minded, though suggested the chip’s name should be changed to a “Chizzle”.

In May, @nectoriouspapi hinted that as well as the new Chicken Cheezels, a Hot Rods Cheesy Jalepeno version could be on its way - much to the excitement of his followers.

“Yes to the jalepenos! Hopefully they are actually hot,” one wrote.

“Cheesy jalepenos looks good,” another commented.

While a third simply declared: “Yummy.”
