Australians have fallen in love with air fryers for being quick and easy to use but it’s their versatility that has made them a must-have kitchen appliance.

Depending on the brand, it can cook just about anything from steak, roasts, cakes, fries and vegetables.

And now it turns out that extends to making mouth-watering, deep-fried ice cream — in just four minutes.

A creative home cook has sparked a whole new love for the kitchen appliance in the popular Facebook group Share Kmart Air Fryer Recipes Australia after she recently shared her simple recipe for the decadent dessert.

The woman’s take on the popular Chinese cuisine, which involves just six ingredients and four minutes cooking time, has attracted hundreds of comments from people describing it as the best homemade fried ice cream they had seen.

“Yummmm,” one member simply put it.

“Omg can we do this,” another wrote, tagging her friend.

Others just bombarded the post with stunned and shocked emojis.

The woman, who used a Kmart air fryer, which range from $49 for 1.5L to $89 for 5.3L, ended up a golden ball and frozen creamy centre.

“Got a little melty, but not much,” she concluded her popular post.

But it’s not the first time a deep fried ice cream recipe has made the rounds on social media.

Earlier this year, another woman shared her version of the treat to the same Facebook page.

However, instead of using Arrowroot biscuits, she rolled the frozen ice cream ball in either crushed Crunchie Nut or Cornflakes.

“Crunchie coating, frozen ice cream. Air fryer strikes again,” she wrote.

She informed keen cooks the balls needed to be frozen for as long as possible for the best result.

“I used a super blast function on mine so overnight if possible.”

“Cook for 2-3 minutes or check regularly to prevent melting. Good luck.”

She explained her method also involved shaping ice cream into balls, coating them in cereal, and then returning them to the freezer for four hours, or until hard.

Before cooking, it was advised to preheat the appliance for five minutes on a setting of 200.

When sufficiently hot, the woman said she placed the ice cream balls on baking paper and allowed these to cook for four minutes.

The dessert trick struck a chord online with the woman’s post garnering more than 1400 reactions and almost 700 comments by thrilled foodies.

“Oh my good god, that looks amazing,” one said.

While another added: “I think I’ve just died and gone to heaven, this is a game-changer.”

“Love the creative minds in this group. Is there nothing you cannot do with an Air Fryer?” Asked a third.

Air fryers, a popular choice for those watching their fat intake, work by circulating hot air around the food, in much the same way hot oil surrounds “deep-fried” food to cook it all the way through.

Part of the air fryer’s appeal is that not only does it cook food without the need for oil, it will also make food crispy.

Hence the obsession with making deep fried ice cream — a dessert known for its smooth and crunchy texture.
