Coles releases new take on household favourite
In a bid to go head-to-head with its rival Woolworths, Coles has released a new twist on a household favourite just one week after Woolies.
Supermarket Coles is going head-to-head with Woolies, releasing a new take on a household favourite.
Coles have released a special edition Southern Style RSPCA Approved Hot Roast Chicken, which comes after other new flavours such as Honey BBQ and Vegemite.
The item can be paired with existing items from the supermarket such as Southern Fried Chicken Portions, which, unlike the roast chicken need to be cooked.
The Hot Roast Chook featured a smokey paprika and buttermilk marinade with a stuffing that features onion, garlic and a secret blend of herbs and spices.
The chicken costs $13 and will be available nationally, except for the Northern Territory.
Tim Hickox, Coles Product Developer for Seafood & Deli, said the team was excited to unveil the new chicken and expand the ready-made meal options in store.
“We know our customers are loving the Southern Fried Chicken range in the poultry section, so we wanted to create a tasty and tangy flavour that would suit our best-selling RSPCA Approved hot roast chooks,” Mr Hickox said.
“As the weather is cooling down, Aussies want comforting and hearty meals that are easy to prepare but won’t break the bank.
“With a smokey buttermilk marinade and herby stuffing, our Southern Style hot roast chicken is delicious when paired with traditional BBQ-style sides or even a simple green salad and potatoes.
“Following the success of the Honey BBQ Hot Roast Chicken launched last year, we discovered our customers are looking for tasty and flavour-packed alternatives to the humble roast chook.
“We also know that when our customers are time poor, our range of convenience meals are great take home options that don’t compromise on flavour. Our Southern Style Hot Roast Chicken will take an easy weeknight meal or Sunday lunch to the next level.”
It comes one week after Woolworths release its own fresh take on the favourite weeknight dinner item.
Food blogger @FoodieMummaRen took to social media to share a picture of the new Woolworths ‘Memphis BBQ’ hot roast chicken, with her followers excited about the addition to the supermarket’s hot ready-to-go section.“We would destroy this,” one person said, tagging their friend in the comments section
