Coles drops pasta prices to $1
It’s the pantry staple you couldn’t get your hands on last year – but now the supermarket giant has permanently discounted its price.
It’s a food item most of us buy at least once a week so you might be excited to find out one supermarket is permanently discounting it.
From today Coles has cut the cost of its house pasta brand, with its 500 gram packets now costing $1 down from $1.20.
While 20 cents might not sound like much it’s actually a 17 per cent reduction and will probably add in savings if spaghetti is on regular rotation in your household.
Earlier this month the supermarket announced that more than 200 items would now be permanently discounted in response to its shoppers feeling the financial pinch after a “tough year”.
The pantry staple proved very popular at the peak of the pandemic which saw it stripped from shelves at various times last year.

Also in the latest round of permanent price reductions are school lunch favourites like Coles 24 Pack Dairy Cheese Slices Tasty Natural now $6.50 down from $7 and a four pack of Coles Diced Peaches in Syrup which is down $2.20 to $2.
“We know that with kids going back to school and Australians returning to their routines after splurging on summer holidays, they are looking for ways to save money on regular purchases – particularly on products they buy all the time like pasta, cheese, diced fruit, canned tuna and lunch box snacks,” Coles general manager of grocery Leanne White said.
Other big savings previously revealed include a pack of eight Bulla Crunch and Chocolate Ice Cream Bars, which are down from $7 to $4.50, a whopping 36 per cent discount.

A 457ml tub of Haagen Dazs Ice Cream now costs $8 down from $11.50.
Coles’ head of pricing and value Tim Lane said he hoped the permanent price markdowns would ease financial stress.
“We know that this has been a tough year and budgets continue to be stretched. With many Australians looking for ways to save money on regular purchases, we’ve lowered the cost of products across our ice cream and fresh convenience range,” he said.
The discounts will continue to be rolled out over the next three months, with permanent price reductions in categories such as cereals and entertaining.
“We’ll be adding further categories to the campaign throughout the summer period, to deliver even better value to customers every time they shop at Coles,” Mr Lane said.
