Cadbury Caramilk chocolate bars to return to shelves in Australia

Cadbury has announced a favourite Aussie chocolate is about to be relaunched - but it’s made some chocoholics angry rather than pleased.

How to make Caramilk

Chocoholics rejoice, a classic Cadbury favourite is making a comeback.

Although, as fans have pointed out, it’s at least the third relaunch for the much-loved bar. Some would prefer it stop coming back and just stay put on the shelves so they can keep munching it.

The sweet giant has dropped a video on its Facebook page heralding the return of Cadbury Caramilk.

“Get ready. It’s coming back. By popular demand,” reveals the short video. No actual timing for the caramelised white chocolate bar’s return to shelves has been confirmed.

“Yes! This is like catnip for humans,” said one on social media.

“Thank god, don’t know how much longer I can keep buying almost expired Caramilk from my milk bar,” said another.

We have some good news… Caramilk is coming back

But if it’s relaunch gives makes you feel like it’s Groundhog Day, that’s because it is. This will be at least the third time Cadbury has brought back Caramilk.

It was once a permanent part of the Cadbury line up but vanished in 1994.

Initially, it stormed back onto shelves in 2018 in Australia after winning over Kiwis the year before. It sold out in minutes and was available for way more than necessary on website eBay. Embarrassingly for Cadbury, it then had to be recalled because plastic shards were found in some bars.

It then made another reappearance in September last year. This time some people complained that it didn’t taste like the 2019 version – perhaps because it was missing those tasty plastic shards we all love so much?

So, this will actually be the third time Cadbury has brought back Caramilk. And that hasn’t gone unnoticed by some.

“Just make it a permanent line already,” said one exasperated shopper on Cadbury’s Facebook.

“So sick of it coming out for a couple of weeks then it goes into hiding again,” said another,

One belief was that Caramilk simply fills a gap between other new flavour launches with a commenter noting Caramilk had disappeared just as Cadbury Dairy Milk Marble made a reappearance.

“It will be back permanently until they find a new flavour that‘s more important at the time and stop production. Caramilk – the new John Farnham,” said Rebecca Dewar.

Caramilk versions of Cadbury Twirl bars have been available. However, to purists it’s just not the same thing at all.

But a block we won’t be getting is a variety of Caramilk with added honeycomb.

Australian chocolate lovers were furious when they discovered that the Caramilk Hokey Pokey bar will only be available in New Zealand.

“We’re excited to confirm that we are launching Caramilk Hokey Pokey in New Zealand this year,” Cadbury marketing manager Kate Watson told news.com.au earlier this month.

“While Caramilk Hokey Pokey won’t be launching in Australia this year, we’d love to hear if it’s a flavour combo Aussie Caramilk fans would like to see us launch in future.”

In response, Aussie Caramilk fans have begun a “revolt”, calling on the confectionary giant to not exclude them from the “Hokey Pokey goodness.

“Cadbury Australia have been known to bow to public pressure before, so why not post a comment on their page and let them know that Aussies want some of that Hokey Pokey goodness too,” read a post on the Caramilk Addicts Club Facebook page.
