Bondi cafe’s $13 cookie dough mix is a huge hit across Woolies stores

Two Bondi mates managed to get their popular treat onto Woolies shelves, with the $13 product selling out in just one day.

Bondi's Bennett St Dairy shares the mouth-watering cookie dough recipe that has just hit Woolies

A Sydney cafe has had their popular cookie dough launched in supermarkets across Sydney – and shoppers are obsessed.

Bennett St Dairy, located in Bondi, is known for its farm-to-plate breakfasts and lunches.

But it’s also home to the famous choc-chip cookie, which they’ve been mixing and packing for customers to enjoy straight from the oven at home.

Co-owners James Meek, 38, and Cliff Baskin, 34, introduced the delivery service at the start of the Covid pandemic last year and since then, it’s been a massive hit.

So much so, the pair got a phone call from Woolies asking if they were keen to stock their beloved treat in stores across NSW as a trial.

“When Covid hit last year, we went back to the shop to clear out the food and one thing we did have was 100kg of the choc chip cookie dough,” James told news.com.au.

“So we put a call out on Instagram asking if anyone wanted to buy some as we didn’t want to throw it out – and that’s what kicked it off.”

The boys managed to sell the entire 100kg in just under an hour and became inundated with messages from customers wanting to buy more.

Woolies was well aware of the huge demand and got in touch with the boys – with James describing it as a “life-changing call”.

“It is definitely a milestone moment when you get a phone call from somewhere like that,” he told news.com.au.

Customers can choose from the original cookie dough or white chocolate and macadamia cookie cough for $13 for 500g.

The huge chunk of cookie dough makes between eight small to one giant cookie, giving customers the option on how big, or small they’d like their cookies to be.

“Did you hear Mum? We made it! We’re in selected @woolworths_au across Sydney. Who’s heading to their local Woolies to scoop us up?” the boys wrote in a post last month alongside a snap of the packaged treat.

So far, the cookie dough is only available at select stores across NSW, with the cafe updating new locations every week.

One post shared on Sunday shows an empty Woolies shelf with the boys revealing it sold out in just one day.

“SUNDAY SELLOUT – you little crack addicts,” their post read.

While there are plenty of pre-made cookie dough mixes out there, James said the demand for their item comes down to the taste.

“We haven’t cut any corners, we use 100 per cent real butter and load it with choc chips.”

Whatever it is, it’s working for the boys, with cookie lovers begging to have the dough stocked at their local Woolies.

“I still haven’t been able to spot these at all in the Marrickville Metro store,” one person commented with a sad face emoji.

If you still haven’t managed to nab the treat, the cookie dough is also available at select IGA stores in NSW and SA.

“Please bring to the Blue Mountains!” one Instagram follower asked.

“We need this in Crookwell!” said another

“IGA Dulwich Hill 2203 please!” a third added.

James said they are grateful to the supermarket giant for supporting local business – and hope to see their product a permanent fixture on Woolies shelves.

“It is absolutely huge for us and we are thankful to Woolies for reaching out – it is life-changing should it all go well.”

Serena Anson-Cope, Woolworths merchandise manager, told news.com.au the retailer is proud to support small Australian suppliers through its local sourcing program.

“More recently, we’ve teamed up with the much-loved Bennett St Dairy to bring their delicious range of cookies into a select group of NSW and ACT stores for our customers to enjoy,” Ms Anson-Cope said.

“With the lockdown impacting Bennett St Dairy’s cafe trade, we saw the partnership as a real win-win. And judging by the response from our customers so far, they wholeheartedly agree.”

Woolworths’ Local Sourcing Program offers small and local brands the opportunity to sell their Australian products to customers across select Woolies stores.
