Australians excited over gluten free Tim Tams hitting shelves

Fans of the beloved biscuit are rushing to their local supermarket to snap up a packet of the just-dropped Arnott’s creation.

‘What the f--k’- Huge change to TimTams stuns Aussies

Coeliacs across the country are excited that one of the most iconic Australian chocolate biscuits is now accessible to them.

Arnott’s has slowly been creating gluten free versions of their beloved range, such as Mint Slices, Tiny Teddies, Shortbread Cream and Choc Ripples.

Now, there’s finally a gluten free Tim Tam on the market. The biscuits come in a pack of seven and retail for $5.50. This is compared to the regular version which has 11 biscuits and costs $4.50. So they don’t come cheap.

It’s an item that coeliacs have been patiently waiting for, with many anticipating the release following the debut of the other gluten free items on supermarket shelves.

TikTok user @han_fitzy was incredibly excited after discovering she was coeliac, which is an allergy to gluten, barley and other wheat products, three years ago.

“I woke up super early to go find gluten free Arnott’s Tim Tams. What the f**k,” she said, jumping in her car to secure the goods.

“I went to three places. I found them. They were fully stocked. They smell the same, they smell the same as others.”

After taking a bite, she decided they tasted the same as regular Tim Tam biscuits.

She even felt the need to double check they were in fact gluten free, as they tasted so similar to the standard biscuit.

Other social media users also were thrilled to learn about the new development.

“I have lived in Australia for five years and I am going to finally taste my first Tim Tam.” one social media user said.

Another asked: “But why does GF always have less than a normal pack?”

“Literally sold out everywhere I’ve looked,” another said.

One commented: “Not a fan of the price though.”

“That’s so good. About time they did more GF foods,” another social media user commented on the new addition.

An Arnott’s spokesperson told news.com.au the brand was proud to bring the item to life.

“For the quarter of Aussies who avoid gluten in their diets, Arnott’s is proud to be able to provide a range of great tasting products for these Aussies including Mint Slice, Shortbread Cream, Tiny Teddy, Choc Ripple, Scotch Finger, and TeeVee Snacks Original; now including Gluten Free Tim Tam,” the spokesperson said.

“The product has started to appear on shelves, with wider availability from November at Coles, Woolworths, IGA and independent retailers.

“In order to deliver a quality Gluten Free biscuit that not only doesn’t compromise on taste but adheres to the strict FSANZ (Food Standards Australia New Zealand) Food Standards Code requirements surrounding a no detectable gluten claim; our Gluten Free Tim Tam is made on a separate gluten-free line using a combination of high quality, gluten free ingredients which come at a higher cost versus original Tim Tam flavours.”
