YouTuber’s popular drink has double legal caffeine limit
Logan Paul, who describes himself an “artist, boxer and wrestler”, has more than 23 million subscribers on YouTube and last year announced his drink company partnership with KSI.
A YouTuber’s energy drink has almost double the legal caffeine limit allowed in Australia.
Logan Paul, who describes himself an “artist, boxer and wrestler”, has more than 23 million subscribers on YouTube and last year announced his drink company partnership with KSI.
The pair founded the drink Prime Hydration, which became the Premier League team Arsenal’s official drink, and is expected to feature heavily at UFC fighting events.
The pair recently brought their drink to Australia, selling in Woolworths and Coles.
However, in Australia, by law, energy drinks must contain no more than 32mg of caffeine per 100mL.
While Prime Hydration is caffeine free, Prime Energy contains 200mg of caffeine in a 350ml can, meaning it is roughly 57mg per 100ml.
The latter is not available for sale within Australia, but can be purchased from online retailers and shipped to Australia.
Some have even taken to getting it from Facebook Marketplace.
The website said the energy drink is not suitable for people under 18 or who are pregnant.
However, because the drink features guarana, which is a classified as a food in Australia, it is sold as a dietary supplement.
“The caffeine content of such products is from guarana which is legally a food in the Australian regulations and so escapes the restrictions placed on addition of caffeine,” the Food Standards website states.
“Foods can be mixed with other foods without special permission under food laws.”
It comes as the drink gains more popularity as it’s release becomes imminent.
One woman is going above and beyond for her partner’s birthday by posting an Airtasker ad in a bid to get her hands on the drink.
Vanessa said she was organising a huge birthday party for her partner’s birthday, who is a massive fan of Paul.
But, due to work commitments she wasn’t able to get down to the supermarket in order to purchase the drink Paul and KSI collaborated on – Prime – as it hit shelves in supermarkets this week.
Instead, she took to Airtasker and listed a $200 job for the energy drink in order to surprise her partner.
“Looking for someone to go to Coles as soon as Prime drinks are on the shelves and get me 12 bottles, preferably in different flavours,” Vanessa’s ad read.
She told news.com.au that she used Airtasker often, as she is time poor due to her work, to help complete jobs around the house.
“With this one, I was worried it might sell out because I don’t have time to line up,” she said.
After posting the ad, Vanessa had responses flow in quickly.
“Within minutes of posting it, I had two responses and it has now gone up to five,” she said.
“Someone even said that they’d be willing to go to multiple stores, which is awesome.
“I love the dedication from the Taskers.”
It’s not the only thing she is posting on Airtasker for her boyfriend’s birthday, even hiring a bartender through the platform for his party.
Last week, thousands of fans waited outside of Nine Studios, where fans hoped to get a glimpse of the social media stars who were appearing on the Today show.
The throng of fans had waited through the night under the impression the two celebrities would walk through the crowd and offer a meet-and-greet style set-up.
However, the event was adapted by event organisers at the last minute due to the heaving crowds.
Last year, the drink became available in British Aldi stores as part of a Special Buys promotion, priced at £1.99 ($A3.50) per bottle, leading to huge queues and fights, as it sold out “within about 30 seconds”, The Sun reported.
Social media was quickly flooded with footage of crowds going to extreme lengths to snag the viral drink.
