You can now buy a purple drink as Swiftie-fever sweeps Australia

Taylor Swift’s effect on retailers has seen Aussies splash out an estimated $140m ahead of the Eras Tour – and now it’s overtaking our bottle shops.

“Peach Fuzz” might be the official colour of 2024, but as Australia prepares for Taylor Swift to arrive on our shores, you’d be forgiven for thinking lilac was the hue of the season.

The pop star made purple cool back in 2022, thanks to her hit song Lavender Haze, and it’s showing no sign of falling out of favour anytime soon.

Swift’s effect on retailers, reportedly set to inject $140 million into the economy, has already seen the colour lilac infiltrate Aussie fashion, make-up and even food – but now it’s overtaking our bottle shops.

Smirnoff has announced a new purple version of its cult ready-to-drink (RTD) beverage for Aussies to sip on, proving how unstoppable Swiftie-fever is.

Aptly named “Smirnoff Ice Lavender Lemonade”, the limited-edition alcoholic drink hits select liquor stores in NSW, VIC and QLD from February 13, just in time for the Eras Tour which kicks off in Melbourne days later before heading to Sydney.

“With the colour purple having its moment, we’re leaning into our lavender era with the launch of Smirnoff Lavender Lemonade, creating a new taste that sparks excitement,” Maddy Stockwell, Smirnoff’s Marketing Manager, said.

“Smirnoff lives and breathes music, so when we saw the line-up of incredible musicians and artists making their way to Aussie stages this year, we knew we had to get ready for it.”

And if you’re wondering what the boozy beverage tastes like, the brand said it has a “delicious combination of lavender and refreshing lemon”.

“Smirnoff Ice Lavender Lemonade combines smooth triple-distilled Smirnoff vodka and crisp lemonade layered with light lavender for a fragrant finish.

“Vibrantly tart yet sweet, with a 4.5 per cent ABV, the blend of citrus and floral notes provides the perfect way to cool down while dancing the day away.”

The new Smirnoff Ice Lavender Lemonade, from the world’s number one selling vodka brand, is available at select nationwide retailers, including Dan Murphy’s stores in NSW and VIC, select Liquorland and 1st Choice stores in NSW, VIC and QLD, and select independent bottle shops.

A four-pack of the iconic 300ml glass bottle will be priced at $21.99.
