UDL Vodka cans like you have never seen them before

Chances are you’ve got many memories of it – some you may choose to forget – but no matter what, they’ve become an Aussie staple.

The alcoholic drink with more calories than a cheeseburger

It’s the drink that nearly every Aussie has tried at least once (or many times) in their lives, mainly after having just turned 18, because let’s be honest, it’s cheap, tasty and gets the job done.

But this is UDL like you have never seen it before – it’s now got a completely different look.

While it’s often branded the “bogan” drink of drinks, no matter what its references, UDL’s have become part of Aussie culture since its inception 56 years ago.

One sip from a UDL can has the ability to transport you to a time of teen house parties and fun nights.

But above all, from generation to generation, it has held onto its reputation of being the ultimate go-to pre-drink, saving many young adults from having to fork out money they don’t have on cocktails they can’t afford.

And now, UDL is going old school with a completely new design to bring back the best of the past with a bright, retro look.

“UDL is a brand that has been loved in Australia since 1965, however it’s also been a brand that has taken the back seat for far too long in recent years,” Maddy Stockwell, marketing manager at Diageo Australia said.

While the affordable beverage (from $20 for a four pack) has undergone a few pack redesigns over the years, this is the first time the makers have looked to the past for inspiration.

“We hope Aussies rediscover what they loved about UDL, from its cheeky personality to convenience to taste,” Ms Stockwell told news.com.au.

“The philosophy for the redesign was to take inspiration from the past – the retro shapes and vibrant colours that dominated decades gone by when UDL was in its heyday.

“If the recent spike in scrunchie and denim jacket sales tells us anything, it’s that what’s old will always be new again. It’s hard to not feel a little nostalgic when opening a UDL pack.”

Some may be shocked to learn that UDLs have a variety of different flavours, from Passionfruit, Pineapple, Orange, Ouzo & Cola and even one that contains zero sugar, the Strawberry Lime Zero Sugar can.

Tropical and Watermelon is the latest flavour to join the range having launched last November.

“UDL has traditionally been a staple among 18 to 25 year olds, who would stock their home bar or bring it along to a party,” Ms Stockwell said.

“It has always had a broad range of great tasting flavours which is what has made it so widely popular – and the reasons to love UDL haven’t changed. It is back, brighter than ever with the same great taste, just now in a new can.”

UDL is available at Dan Murphy’s and all other leading liquor stores across Australia.
