An Olympic water polo player has filmed her American boyfriend having his first sip of “real” coffee while Down Under.
Tilly Kearns competed at the Tokyo Olympics as part of the Australian Stingers, with the team being beaten by Russia in the quarterfinals.
The 22-year-old studies and plays for the University of Southern California water polo team when she’s not training for the Olympics, with the team competing in the national championships for the 2023 NCAA women’s collegiate competition.
Kearns is now in Australia, bringing her boyfriend along with her, following the season’s conclusion.
She posted a video of Justin, who is a footballer for the same college, trying “real” coffee for the first time.
Justin repeatedly stirred the coffee – even spilling some over the edge and jokingly calling it a “party foul” – before taking a sip.
“It’s good sh*t Matilda,” he said, calling Kearns her full name.
“It’s good sh*t.”
She captioned the video saying that he didn’t believe her that Australia had a superior coffee culture to America.
But, many called Justin out for repeatedly stirring the latte.
“Now teach him to stop stirring it and sip through the foam,” one social media user said.
Another joked: “WHY IS HE STIRRING IN THE LATTE ART?!? These are grounds to deny a visa.”
One added: “Him stirring makes my eye twitch haha.”
In a follow up video, Justin apologised for stirring his drink, adding he didn’t know any better.
“What do you have to say to the people,” Kearns asked him.
“Guys, I’m sorry. I did not mean to stir my drink before I drank it,” he said.
“I was sabotaged by my girlfriend. She did not teach me that. I won’t repeat the mistake.”
He then shared he was having his first sip of Australian beer, repeating his earlier phrasing about the drink being “good sh*t”.
