Barista gives a brutally honest review of McDonald’s coffee

We gave one of Sydney’s top barista’s a coffee from each venue and asked him to pick his favourite. The results will surprise you.

McDonald’s released a statistic earlier this week that blew my mind.

The Golden Arches claimed that one in every four coffees sold in Australia is from one of its McCafes.

It went on to claim that it sells 600,000 coffees every single day.

Firstly, wow!

Secondly, really?

This Surry Hills Barista rates McDonalds, Woolies and 7 Eleven coffees

Confession: I’ve never had a coffee from Maccas (I’m not a snob, I’m just usually hungover when I go there and a milky latte is the last thing on my mind), and I certainly wouldn’t describe myself as a coffee expert.

So yesterday, I asked my local barista to try a McDonald’s coffee and to give me an honest review.

So that he had something to compare it to, I also gave him a flat white from Woolworths and a flat white from 7-Eleven.

The results were pretty surprising.

Here’s what Franco Amitrano from Cafe and Cucina in Sydney’s Surry Hills had to say about the beverages.

McDonalds coffee: “Very weak. Tastes a lot like water to me. Not a lot of coffee flavour. I’d probably rate this 5/10. Sorry.”

Woolworths coffee: “Too milky. Not enough coffee flavour. 5/10.”

7-Eleven coffee: “Very weak. Not a bad taste. Not burnt or anything. I’d probably rate this one 6/10.”

So there you go, 7-Eleven claims the win!

The 7-Eleven coffee was also the cheapest, costing $2 compared to the Woolworths coffee ($3.50) and McDonald’s coffee ($3.95 for a small).
