Hard Solo discount: Huge price drop on controversial drink

Hard Solo is available for just $2 a can with this sweet deal, weeks after a controversy that forced the drink to change its name.

‘Doesn’t pass that pub test’: New drink ‘Hard Solo’ a hard pass for Independent MP

Just weeks after a controversy that forced Hard Solo to change its name, the vodka-spiked soft drink has had its price slashed in an epic deal.

The delivery service app DoorDash is currently selling 10-packs of Hard Solo cans from BWS for just $29, down from its original price of $58 — a discount of 50 per cent.

And on top of that, DoorDash is offering shoppers an additional 30 per cent off when they spend $40 or more.

That means fans of the drink can pick up two 10-packs of Hard Solo for $40.60 — a discount of 65 per cent, or just $2.03 per can.

Social media users flocked to Facebook to share their hauls after a shopper spotted the bargain.

“Awesome, thanks, just ordered two and paying just under $50 for both with the discount,” one person said on the Markdown Addicts Australia page.

“Thanks for sharing. Snagged four 10-packs for $81.20 — usually would cost $200!” said another.

Incredibly, a third shopper said they had been “buying two (packs) a day since Saturday”.

“Can’t believe they aren’t onto it by now,” the savvy shopper added.

But while many managed to get their hands on the deal, others said the offer didn’t seem to be available in their area.

“Not available where I live,” one said.

Another wrote: “Mine is coming up full price.”

The deal is only available on the DoorDash app. It can be found by searching for Hard Solo in the search bar, selecting the BWS offer and meeting the conditions of order.

Hard Solo, which is marketed as an alcoholic version of regular Solo, was hit by controversy earlier this month after a series of complaints that it was too attractive to kids.

The Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code Scheme ruled that the drink’s physical similarity to the original lemon flavoured version breached standards for strong or evident appeal to minors.

Parent company Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) announced it will change the name of its alcoholic beverage to Hard Rated.

“As we comply with the ABAC decision and the Hard Solo brand exits the market, we’d like to assure the many Australian adults who have loved Hard Solo that the taste won’t change when the name changes to Hard Rated,” a CUB spokesperson said.

“Consistent with ABAC rules, CUB will ensure the last Hard Solo can packaging will exit our supply network by no later than 9 February 2024.”
