Alejandra Anguiano is completely unrecognisable after embarking on a mission to lose an incredible 50kg so she could compete in a beauty pageant.

The model, who is also a teacher and law student, once tipped the scales at 108kg.

Ms Anguiano, of Mexico, said growing up as a young woman was challenging as she was a victim of bullying due to her weight.

“I was regularly harassed and bullied, but I always said ‘do not throw stones at those who can one day use them to build beautiful castles’,” Ms Anguiano said.

However, the model — who also speaks English, French and Italian — has since got the ultimate revenge on her tormentors by losing 50kg.

After, she went on to be crowned Miss Earth Banderilla in Veracruz, Mexico and will take part in the state version of the beauty pageant next month.

The 25-year-old hopes she not only wins the Miss Earth Veracruz pageant but is also able to pass on her positive message to others.

“More than just physical beauty, as a society we should seek to improve our intelligence, values, education, love for nature and care of the environment as they are things we really need in life,” Ms Anguiano said.

She said she had not used any “chemical products” to lose weight that would “put her at risk”.

“I am very concerned about my health. All my food is 100 per cent natural and based on fruits, vegetables and herbal teas,” she said.

Ms Anguiano said she shed the weight over a four-year period through healthy eating with the help of a nutritionist and regular exercise.

Many have taken to social media to commend the young woman’s incredible transformation.

“It’s an example to follow. I gave up but now I’m more than motivated,” one person commented on a before-and-after photo of Ms Anguiano on Facebook.

“It’s really her, this is beautiful and a great story to tell congratulations and my best wishes to this beautiful girl,” another added.

“Without a doubt a great example that consistency and discipline are possible as long as you persevere.”

According to local media, obesity and being overweight is something that affects 73 per cent of adults and 35 per cent of children and adolescents in Mexico.
