Olympian Libby Trickett partners Body & Soul in health and fitness program
OLYMPIAN Libby Trickett may have retired from competitive swimming but knows motivation is crucial to achieving health goals.
OLYMPIAN Libby Trickett is still adjusting to a fitness regime that doesn't include 35 hours of training every week but knows motivation is crucial to achieving any health goals.
Trickett, 29, has partnered with Body & Soul to support their 10-week revolution, a new online health and fitness program.
"With swimming I had to be active and workout that was almost my job, my career. But I guess through retirement and coming back and retiring again I've recognised how important physical activity is to physical and mental wellbeing," she said.
Trickett said she is still transitioning into an exercise routine that suits her new life, which includes a gig as Channel Nine's Today show health and lifestyle reporter.
"I'm still trying to find the balance, I can't train 35 hours a week as I was. That would be stupid," she said.
Trickett aims for 30 minutes of exercise a day and mixes it up with yoga, swimming and spin classes.
"I had such a consistent exercise routine for almost 15 years of my life I'm quite enjoying the difference in changing it and in my body.
"You get results quicker doing lots of different things."
As for motivation, Trickett relies on a reward system but has yet to decide what she will treat herself to once she reaches her goal of completing a triathlon this year.
"I haven't started training yet but I'm planning on doing some shorter triathlons earlier this year and towards the end of the year get to the Noosa triathlon," she said.
"I'd love to complete an Olympic triathlon."
Trickett has recommended sharing your fitness goals with family and friends to ensure they kept you honest.
"Put it out in the universe and see people encourage you and support you on the journey. That's an important way of making people take responsibility for their health," she said.
