NSW gyms allowed to reopen from June 13
Fitness lovers are “jumping for joy” after being given a date for when NSW gyms will reopen following a lengthy shutdown period.
Fitness lovers are rejoicing after a date was finally been given for NSW gyms to reopen.
The state’s Deputy Premier John Barilaro announced today that June 13 would be the day “gymnasiums, studios, yoga classes, tattoo parlours, massage palaces and community sport” venues would be allowed to open again after a lengthy shutdown period.
The health and fitness facilities had been shut since March 23 when the government introduced tough restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Describing the news as “exciting for those businesses” Mr Barilaro said there would still be limitations on the new relaxed rules.

Tattoo and massage parlours will also be allowed to open for up to 10 clients while indoor recreation facilities including pools and saunas will also be open but with restricted numbers.
Social distancing measures such as regular hand and equipment sanitising and 1.5m gaps between people will be required at all venues.
“As they say, you build summer bodies in winter, and that’s what we’re doing today,” Deputy Premier John Barilaro said.
Reaction to the news has already been huge, with many stating they were “jumping for joy” online.

OTHER STATES GYM RULES
ACT
ACT opening its doors to fitness lovers on Saturday, May 30, allowing up to 20 people at a time to use facilities as part of the state’s stage two restrictions plan.
The rules do not specify how that headcount must be used, meaning some facilities have opened purely for group fitness, while others have opened just their gym spaces.
VICTORIA
While gyms in Victoria haven’t yet opened, the date was set for June 22. Currently people in the state are allowed to take part in outdoor activities in groups of 10, including bootcamps and footy. Social distancing measures will still apply.
QUEENSLAND
Queenslanders are expected to be allowed back into gyms and fitness centres on June 13. The amount of people inside will be capped at 20 patrons and gyms will need to ensure thorough sanitisation of gym equipment, as well as social distancing measures.
Currently, state residents are allowed to get a sweat on outside in groups of up to 10 people. These include non-contact sports and outdoor group training sessions.
TASMANIA
Gyms in Tasmania are expected to open on June 15, along with swimming pools and other indoor sporting venues. As with other states, currently fitness measures that are permitted are outdoor group classes of up to 10 people.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
The big day was on May 18 for WA. Western Australians have to take extra measures compared to other states, with gym junkies being asked to bring as much of their own equipment as possible. Shared equipment will be avoided and gyms will have to follow strict cleaning schedules.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Gyms will be allowed to open from June 8 in South Australia. Gyms will be allowed to have 20 fitness fans at a time. Currently, 10 people are allowed to gather in groups for outdoor activities and a limited number of outdoor swimming pools have opened.
NORTHERN TERRITORY
Gyms in the Northern Territory are open and have been since May 15, with strict cleaning and social distancing rules in place.
