THE gym is the new catwalk for celebs like Gigi Hadid and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who are stylish while they sweat.
And with about a month to go until summer, what do you need to do in the next month to get in shape?
Apart from being Shanina Shaik or Khloe Kardashian, of course.
These are Nike fitness trainer Phoebe Di Tommaso’s top five tips to get hot for summer.
FRIENDS
When motivation is just not there, make a workout date with a friend — you’re less likely to cancel a workout if someone is there waiting for you. And it makes training that much more enjoyable having someone to sweat it out with.
CHANGES
Changing up your workouts every week, or every so often, is a great way to keep your body guessing. If you’re stuck in a fitness rut, get out and try something you haven’t before.
Doing an activity you’re not used to will challenge your body and keep your fitness schedule exciting and fresh.
HYDRATE
Hydration and nutrition are super important for any fitness goal.
Often we don’t emphasise the H2O part though. If you’re increasing your training intensity, make sure you’re increasing your water intake, especially as the temperature heats up.
It aids us in recovery and helps the body replenish different systems in the body.
TAKE IT OUTSIDE
As the weather heats up, take your workout to the streets. Training outside has a multitude of benefits and can add some extra bonus points you may have missed over winter … vitamin D hit. Check! And add some running to your training to boost that calorie burn.
INTERVALS
Interval training means alternating between bursts of high intensity exercise, teamed with periods of low intensity exercise. Research has shown multiple benefits of including interval training in your workouts. These include increasing your metabolism, getting fitter faster, and losing weight while increasing muscle tone.
And it’s so much more time effective! A 30 minute session of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) will far outweigh the benefits of a 90 minute gym session any day of the week.
