If there’s one thing Corey Calliet is best known for it’s his “beastlike” physique.

The 35-year-old celebrity trainer has not only transformed his own life, but is known for whipping plenty of celebrities into shape, from rapper A$AP Rocky to Michael B. Jordan ahead of his roles in Creed, Creed II and Black Panther.

Others may recognise Calliet from Khloe Kardashian’s TV series Revenge Body.

But before becoming one of the world’s most recognised fitness trainers, Calliet had body struggles of his own.

“I wasn’t happy with what I saw in the mirror,” Calliet told news.com.au about his 18-year-old self.

“It got to the point where I would take a shower with the lights off because I didn’t want to see what I looked like in the mirror.”

Tired of “looking like a mess and feeling uncomfortable,” he made a bet with a football-playing friend that he’d train every day when he went to college.

What also motivated him was … a girl.

“I was trying to impress her,” Calliet said.

And although the two later shared a child together, Calliet’s obsession with feeling good had overridden his goal in trying to impress the young woman.

“Honestly, I forgot about her (at the time) — I was so deep into transforming myself I had tunnel vision, learning everything there was to know about changing my physique,” Calliet told news.com.au

“I was determined to become the best version of myself overall.”

So what happened next?

Calliet became a competitive bodybuilder, started transforming bodies in the gym and went on to attract a plethora of celebrity clients — and he hasn’t looked back since.

While bodybuilding taught him a lot, such as nutritional discipline, it was an unhealthy lifestyle that went on to give him body dysmorphia. But despite the setbacks, he managed to transform that constant dissatisfaction into motivation.

“I’m happy that I look good. But in my mind, there’s always something else to do or change,” he said.

CALLIET’S TWO-MONTH TRANSFORMATION

Earlier this year, after taking a break from body building, Calliet found he was fluctuating in weight and it was during this time he decided it was time to “fall in love with fitness again”.

“I had to challenge myself and go back to my roots which is bodybuilding and it turned that fire back on,” he said.

And he did just that, transforming his body completely in just two months.

“I’m getting down to a size I am going to stay with because I am going into action acting now,” Calliet said.

The trainer will be playing a sniper in the upcoming movie Without Remorse alongside his client and friend Michael B. Jordan.

When it comes to his training Calliet has taken a more athletic approach.

“It went from a body building standpoint to carving and shaping my body with a more functional athletic aerobic style,” he said.

“I want to do things different. I have been body builder for a long time and now I want to be more athletic and tap into a side that I show people sometimes. I want to be physically fit.”

Calliet has also changed the way he eats, having taken on intermittent fasting — an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating.

“The body I have I don’t need to eat so many calories in a day,” Calliet said,

“I’m not trying to grow anymore. I am maintaining and also shaping at the same time.”

Calliet will eat anywhere between 1700 to 2000 calories a day.

“If I get three or four meals in, that’s fine but my body can survive without eating six or seven meals a day, but if I am getting ready for a certain situation, I change it up.”

TRAINING KHLOE KARDASHIAN/REVENGE BODY:

Eventhough Calliet has appeared on three seasons of Khloe Kardashian’s popular V series Revenge Body, it was only three weeks ago he actually trained the reality star.

“We did some weight training, conditioning and ab work.,” Calliet told news.com.au

“Khloe works hard. She speaks it, she lives it, she loves it and she does it.”

The producers of the show had reached out to Calliet after they saw how he transformed Michael’s body in Creed.

“I auditioned for it and did an on-camera interview. They already knew I could train so it was whether or not I was going to be able to connect with the audience.”

Calliet said during the interview, while getting to know his story, within 20 minutes they knew they had someone who could connect with the world.

“The show is amazing — these people have been broken, who have been shut-out an shut down so I am able to help them repair their broken self.

“It’s more than a physical transformation. These people come to us broken, bewildered and weak and when they leave they are totally different people from the inside, out.

“For me I love the show because I actually get to reach a person that needs me the most.”
