Fitness fan defends not wearing bra to gym

Do you wear a bra to the gym? It is a big question, and Aussie women are divided on the answer.

It has recently become clear that underwear and the gym are controversial.

This question is more than a handful? Get it, okay, I’ll stop.

It all started when the popular fitness influencers Laura Henshaw and Steph Claire-Smith kicked off the conversation on their podcast, revealing some women don’t wear undies beneath their gym tights.

They shared their discussion on Instagram, and people quickly shared their opinions. Some women thought it was gross, and others found it freeing.

The famous influencer Ellie Gonsalves, who has a million followers and counting, admitted that she goes undie-free,

“I don’t! Much more comfortable and no lines under my pants,” she commented.

She also shared that Khloe Kardashian, yes, the reality star herself, was the one who got her onto not wearing undies.

“Khloe Kardashian told me not to do it! So I did and haven’t looked back,” she wrote.

Suddenly it became clear that the underwear you wear or don’t wear to the gym is a hot topic. Right up there with is coriander gross or not.

So what about bras?

Is the norm to wear one while working up a Jane Fonda workout video sweat ... or not.

So, the bra question was simply something I had to investigate.

I channelled my inner detective and asked a group of women where they stood on wearing a bra.

The responses were mixed. It was a split.

Some women said it “hurt” not wearing a bra. Basically, if you aren’t wearing one, your boobs are more likely to move around, and if you’re trying to be a Sporty Spice, it isn’t always easy.

Others shared that their gym crop tops offered heaps of support, and it made them feel “free”, and I mean, who doesn’t want to feel free?

While another pointed out that she used to be a bra girl but since getting a boob job, she’d joined the crop gang because her boobs didn’t move around as much anymore.

If this was a bill it wouldn’t pass parliament.

What became very obvious was that everyone had a pretty staunch opinion on the subject. Those who advocated for wearing bras at the gym were shocked at the idea that people could not, and those who didn’t bother strapping their boobs down couldn’t imagine worrying about a bra when sweating it up.

It was like asking people if you should keep your tomato sauce in the fridge of in the pantry.

So where do we land on this trend?

Well, not wearing a bra to the gym is definitely a thing. Forty per cent of the women I spoke to said they didn’t bother with one.

Clearly the bra question comes down to preference but not wearing a bra at the gym is absolutely a trend.
