RUNNING along the beach, paddling in the pool, or having a hit of backyard cricket are all great ways to get fit this summer.
RUNNING along the beach, paddling in the pool, or having a hit of backyard cricket are all great ways to get fit this summer.
But those keen to strike the perfect balance between keeping cool and conquering a physical challenge in 2015 need look no further than stand-up paddleboard pilates.
A hybrid of the old and new — pilates was developed in Germany around a century ago while stand-up paddleboarding is a recent fitness craze — paddleboard pilates requires plenty of core strength and concentration.
Simon Trangmar, of Adelaide Pilates Studio, demonstrated the exercise at Seacliff Beach with Sally Danbary in tow and said the unconventional exercise form is fast garnering a loyal following.
And its not limited to pilates either — yoga enthusiasts are also getting in on the act with West Lakes’ Cosmic Yoga Studio recently adding stand up paddleboarding yoga to its schedule.
Celebrity fans of the water workout include Jennifer Aniston, Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson.
But whatever way you work up a sweat, summer should be about exercise — in the great outdoors if you can manage it — especially after festive feasting.
