DESIGNERS have upped the ritzy quotient, bringing on sparkle, shine and over-the-top elegance at the autumn/winter 2015 shows.

Offerings from Dries Van Noten included richly patterned dresses, coats and pants in jacquard and brocade fabrics. The opulent designs had a bohemian tilt, dripping with jewels, sequins, embroidery and gilt fringing.

The lavish theme continued at Lanvin, with Alber Elbaz showcasing a selection of floor-sweeping dresses adorned with giant tassel belts, fringing and shearling coats.

Balmain looked to the ’70s for inspiration. Olivier Rousteing had models sashay down the runway in sharply cut jackets; fringed disco dresses and high-waisted palazzo pants added an extra dose of glamour.

Power dresses ruled the runway at Roland Mouret. This season they came in jewel tones with darts transforming A-line silhouettes into figure-flattering pencil skirts.

Carven’s ’60s-inspired sportswear had an après-ski vibe to them, with lean, modern shapes that Sydneysiders will want to wear.

Designers Adrien Caillaudaud and Alexis Martial introduced high-waisted belted pants into the collection of retro miniskirts, which were worn with button-down shirts and skivvies.

Rick Owens’ modern streetwear had gold sequins and fur fringing. His dark, glamorous range included oversized tops, which looked like giant blankets twisted around the torso.

On the other end of the retail spectrum was H & M’s premium studio show, which included Star Trek-inspired silver jumpsuits, chunky sweaters and chevron printed maxi skirts slit up the thigh. The high-octane show included appearances by stars Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Caroline de Maigret.
