HEMLINES have reached maximum capacity with a global fast fashion chain reporting Australian women have ditched their miniskirts in favour of ankle-skimmers.
A racer back maxi dress and maxi skirt were among the top-selling items in Australia for British retailer Boohoo.com in the past year, said CEO Carol Kane.
“Our Australian female customer loves our maxi dresses. In fact, dresses in general are our best-selling category globally.”
The comments come amid a worldwide trend for below-the-knee hems and if the “hemline index” — a theory that hem lengths reflect the global economy — is any indication, it may be time to tighten the belt.
