Kmart releases $25 version of controversial 90s fashion trend

A “controversial” fashion trend from the 90s has made a come back, with the discount store revealing the product is proving very popular.

$25 Kmart item shoppers adore

An activewear trend initially popular in the 90s has returned to closets once again, with women across the country jumping in on the trend.

Twenty years after first cladding limbs, flared leggings are now reportedly back in fashion thanks to Gen Z.

But despite being labelled “controversial” by prestigious fashion magazine Vogue recently, debate over the resurgence has done little to stop the return in popularity.

Stars including Rihanna, Hailey Bieber, and Emily Ratajkowski all being spotted in the pants – and now an affordable Australian retailer has jumped on the trend.

Kmart has just dropped the “Active Womens Kick Flare Leggings”, available in a size 10 to 20, with a price tag of $25.

The leggings only come in black.

Since hitting shelves in recent weeks, videos have been popping up on TikTok of shoppers praising the tights.

Fashion blogger @madicorbett_ shared a clip of herself trying them on, pairing them with a crop top.

The Perth woman showed there was a V-shape waistline on the activewear.

“The cutest autumn Kmart finds, the flared leggings and black crop are my ultimate go to right now,” she shared.

One social media user got her hands on a pair of the tights and called them the “most flattering flare leggings” and that people should “run to Kmart right now” for them.

TikTok user @itsxanthiaa, who has documented her lipodema surgery on the platform, asked her followers if they wanted a review of the tights.

“Kmart is coming in hot, and I’m actually shocked! They’ve got the flare leggings now,” she said.

Other social media users reacted to the tights.

“Flares giving me flash backs to 2004,” one social media user commented on one of the clips.

Another said: “I live in the flared Leggings.”

“Yes! just bought some from a brand website cost so much,” another TikTok user commented

One simply put: “I’m a sl*t for flared anything.”

“The Active Womens Kick Flare Leggings landed in store and online around six weeks ago and have been an absolute hit,” Kmart women’s active buyer Frances Catts told news.com.au.

“We are so thrilled to see the online hype around them with customers calling out the flattering fit and calling them ‘the ultimate go to!’

“They’re made from a ultra-soft fabric, with a butter soft touch and features a fold waistband with soft kick flare that are super flattering on the body.

“The perfect addition to yoga, or to go out to for brunch.”
